Melanies' Homemade Longmead House Breakfast Granola

They say that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and here at Longmead we fully support this. Melanie prepares and cooks fresh local ingredients and produce to order for you to savour each morning.

Her homemade Granola is tasty and full of goodness and of course made with love. Many of our guests love it, not only enjoying a portion each morning for breakfast but they often end up buying a bag to take home.
Melanie uses the basis of a recipe that she found on Pinterestfor Wild Granola but has modified it adding a selection of dried fruits and found this to be a more tasty and wholesome version than the original.

Here is the Basic Granola recipe :

  • 3 Cups of porridge Oats ( large oats work best)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 Tablespoon of ground cinnamon ( sweet cinnamon is better )
  • 2/3rds cup of Runny Honey or Maple Syrup
  • 4 Tablespoons of Sunflower oil
  • A Selection of nuts and seeds ( your choice) add as many or as few as you wish of the following
  • ¼ cup almonds
  • ¼ cup hazelnuts
  • ¼ cup walnuts
  • ¼ cup pecans
  • 2 table spoons sunflower seeds
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkins seeds
  • Mix oats, nuts ,seeds, saltand cinnamon in a bowl
Add in honey and oil and stir well until all dry ingredients are coated

Line a baking sheet and bake at 180 C or 300F for 30-40 mins ( stirring
once half way)

Remove the baking tray then add mixed chopped dried fruit of your choice before it cools ( Cranberries, raisins, Sultanas, Dried apricots, Figs, pear/ Apples or prunes)

Let is cool and harden and then store in an airtight container and enjoy at breakfast with Greek yoghurt or on top of porridge , or just on its own with cold milk. A healthy and hearty start to your day. Let us know your favorite combination of ingredients and toppings ?
