Events to look forward to 2022 Lynton and Lymouth 

There are many reasons to visit Lynton and  Lynmouth especially as the countryside around us in Exmoor National Park is open and accessible  all year round. We have collated a calendar of  other interesting and exciting annual events that visitors and guests can enjoy during their visits

What's On over the year 2022

All being well there are many annual events happening to look forward to and put in your diary in Lynton and Lynmouth and the local area over 2022

JanuarySnowdrop valley – between the end of January and during February you can visit Snowdrop valley nearby at Wheddon Cross and walk down to a secluded hidden valley that is carpeted with beautiful spring snowdrops along the river bank. It’s a lovely circular walk or you can take the bus down to the bottom of the valley and just walk along the river banks where the snowdrops cover the ground.

February Snowdrop valley continuation of the spring bulbs flowering deep in the valley. Valentine's day special offers by accommodation and restaurants and pubs locally. So why not share a romantic getaway or meal with the special person in your life.

March Many Accommodation providers open again for the season. The local restaurants and cafes open up again so you can often find a special opening offer. During your exploration of the local countryside you can often spot the signs of Spring all around us, the wildlife emerging from their hibernation, the flora bursting into blossom, the new spring lambs gambolling around the fields exmoor is a glorious sight bursting into Spring so why not explore it for yoursleves. 

AprilThe Victorian Cliff railway opens for the seasonSince when 1890 it has been transporting visitors and locals up and down the cliff between Lynton and Lynmouth. It is a fantastic and fascinating feat of Victorian engineering. The highest water powered funicular railway in England. The staff dress up in Victorian garb so you can really celebrate the age of Victorian engineering for yourselves. 

MayThe Cliff Railway is celebrating theVictorian Steam Punk Festival Celebrate everythingVictorian the founders of Lynton and Lynmouth in style. A unique festival  inspired by the Victorian industrial steam and water powered machinery.  You will see people dressed up in Victorian finery, pirate or steam punk outfits over the celebrations. You can join in with the Victorian themed revelry over the weekend.

 Also in May Woody Bay Station Steam railway  hosts a  Spring gala weekend. You can travel along the narrow gauge railway on part of the original Lynton and Barnstaple railway line a favourite of children of all ages big and small. After a ride on one of the originally restored engine and carriages then why not have a cream tea at the railway cafe. 

June Lyn Valley Classic12th June weekend . If you like old classic cars, and of course supercars then why not visit us for the weekend as this is a must see for any petrol head. Bring your own ‘restoration’ work in progress or old banger to display or just indulge in viewing some of the most stunning cars in the South West. There are so many vehicles and other entertainment to see and enjoy a great family fun day out. 

July It’s the nautical month and any potential sailors can take part or view the Lynmouth Raft Race. Always wet and wild fun with homemade rafts and flour bombs launched its mayhem and full of laughter and fun which teamwill survive the raceand who will sink. This is a great family fun event, cheer on your favourite team or 'bomb' your rivals with flour to try and scupper them ! There is always lots of fun and laughter at this race whatever the weather. 

August Why not indulge in a bit of culture watching an outdoor theatre production byThe Pleasure Dome Theatre Company. They will perform in the stunning and atmospheric location of the Valley of Rocks. A must see attraction for all the family, bring a picnic for an full al fresco experience. 

Over the Bank holiday weekend The legendary Grand Tour of Mini cars of all ages,travel through Lynton and park up in the Valley of Rocks. A must see for car enthusiasts , these cars and drivers dress up and honk/ beep driving along their route across the South West from Barbrook to Ilfracombe. They drive right past Lomgmead House up to the Valley of Rocks so you can take a short walk and view them all. Another afternoon of fun and smiles. 

September Woody Bay Station  hosts it's Autumn Steam Railway Gala. There is another opportunity to travel on this restored steam railway line.Afterwards you can enjoy a cream tea at the railway café.

Lyn Food Fest   is held on The last Sunday in September this event is hosted in the famous Lynton and Lynmouth town hall.Featuring the most tasty and exclusive local produce and food suppliers of North Devon, the South West around Exmoor and Somerset. Why not come and sample the unique and tasty food and drink try and buy these lovely products for yourselves.

October  is our famous Dark skies Festival If you love star gazing then why not come and stay during the end of October or early November for this unique opportunity to see the skies without light pollution. There are many events and various festivals for families and adults across Exmoor during these two weeks.

December Lynton and Lynmouth hold a Christmas late night shopping weekend where all the local shops stay open til 8 in the evening and serve festive drinks and treats to customers. You can shop for unique and locally made gifts for Christmas presents. There is additional outsidefestive entertainment from the Lyn Line Dancers and Lyntones community choir to keep us all warm and in the Christmas mood. 

So as you can see there are lots of special events planned throughout the year for you to enjoy when you come to stay.
